On November 1st, the Orono Alliance kicks off it 2009-10 Annual Fund Calling Campaign. Members of the community are asked to volunteer to call fellow community members to solicit donations for the current year’s annual fund grant. Calling will continue through November 13th.
Your Gift Made a Difference!
On September 11, 2009, the Alliance awarded $245,000 to the Orono School District, helping Orono become one of only two schools in the metro area to start the school year without making teacher cuts. As a result of this year’s Alliance grant, Orono is able to maintain reasonable class sizes, reinstate the Middle School House model, and increase guidance for students in grades 8-12.
Help Us Accomplish Even More!
The 2009-2010 Annual Fund Campaign will be used to help maintain these programs as well as help fund some exciting new initiatives that will benefit all students, including:
- An integrated science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum
- Expansion of world language programs
- Accelerated learning opportunities.
Together we can help prepare our children to be globally competitive. Together we can give them the gift of education.
For more information about the Alliance or to volunteer for our calling campaign, please contact Ann Cadwallader, Director of Development & Administration at ann@oronoalliance.org.

AN UPDATE ON HOW YOUR GIFTS HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Since our inception in 2000, the Orono Alliance for Education has granted more than $2.8 million to the Orono Public Schools to preserve and enhance the education of Orono school district students.
The Orono Alliance enriches student experiences in three ways:
- Direct grants to the Orono School district.
- Grants to teachers for classroom enhancements.
- Scholarships to graduating high school seniors pursuing post-secondary studies.
Learn more on the projects we fund.
Our mission has grown in importance over the years with the continued decrease in state funding for public education due to limitations in the state funding formula. The need for private funding, through the Alliance, is critical to close the gap. Participation of any amount and by all community members is needed to accomplish this goal.
